Procedure

REGISTRATION ONLY BETWEEN 09.00 AND 12.30 AM

Arrival

On arrival in Belgium all foreign nationals staying longer than one month must register at their local town hall within eight working days.

  • passport or identity card
  • proof of enrolment at the university
  • copy of your rental contract or correct address

  • 4 passport photographs
  • proof of enrolment at the university
  • EHI-card or proof of Insurance
  • proof of scholarship or proof of enrolment as Erasmus student or a declaration on honour of proof of solvency is also accepted
  • copy of your rental contract or correct address

Non-EU-citizen

  • passport with visa C (if required)
  • 1 passport photograph
  • proof of enrolment at the university

* After registration at the local Town Hall, a police officer will pass by your residence to check that you actually live there before you receive your BIVR.

Changes/leaving Belgium

  • Change of address: notify the Town Hall and alter the address in your student file.
  • Leaving Belgium at the end of your studies/stay: notify the Town Hall.
  • Leaving Belgium in the middle of your studies/stay: notify the Town Hall and the Student Administration of your university.
  • Renewal of your residence permit: don’t forget to go to the Town Hall at least 45 days before the expiration date.
